Prisoners' media has warned of a serious outbreak of scabies among prisoners in Negev Prison, amid their deprivation of treatment and necessary medicines.
It explained that the severe itching caused by the disease drives prisoners to scratch their bodies continuously, leading to skin cracking and the appearance of wounds and sores that bleed, noting that some infections develop into painful boils and acute inflammations.
It added that the absence of medicines, ointments and medical examinations, along with a shortage of hygiene supplies and clothing, exacerbates the spread of infection among prisoners, while continued itching and pain deprive them of sleep and cause physical exhaustion and psychological and nervous deterioration.
Prisoners' media demanded urgent intervention to provide the necessary treatment and bring in hygiene supplies and clothing, warning of the continued spread of the disease under the difficult health conditions inside the prison.
