Thousands of people demonstrated in New York City tonight in protest against the visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who arrived in the city to participate in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The protesters gathered in front of the New York Public Library on 42nd Street, demanding an end to the Israeli occupation's aggression on the Gaza Strip, an end to the occupation and policies of forced displacement against Palestinians. They raised Palestinian flags and banners criticizing Israeli policies in Palestine.
Participants chanted pro-Palestine slogans, including "Free Palestine," and held banners reading "We don't want war criminals in New York," "Israel is starving Palestinians to death," and "We see a genocide," alongside demands for imposing international sanctions on Israel.
The protesters marched through the city's streets toward the vicinity of the UN headquarters, before New York police erected metal barriers to prevent them from approaching the building, while large numbers of police officers deployed in the area.
The march witnessed limited skirmishes between pro-Palestinian demonstrators and groups that raised Israeli flags, before police intervened to separate the two sides, as the protesters continued their demonstration at the location designated by police near the UN headquarters.
