Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir threatened Palestinian prisoner Hassan Salameh with death and execution during a raid on his cell, an incident the far-right minister documented in a video clip and published on his account on the X platform.
In the clip, Ben Gvir appeared inside Salameh's cell, directing a direct death threat at him, before speaking about the measures he had taken against prisoners during his tenure as national security minister, pledging to continue his approach if he assumes the defence portfolio in the future, including pushing towards carrying out death sentences against Palestinian prisoners, and proposing displacement policies from the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
Hassan Salameh is a Palestinian prisoner detained since 1996, serving a sentence of 48 life terms plus 30 years. He has spent about three decades inside Israeli prisons, including years in solitary confinement.
Hamas, for its part, warned of the repercussions of Ben Gvir's threat against prisoner Salameh, saying the clip published by the Israeli minister would not diminish his resolve or the resolve of Palestinian prisoners.
The movement added that the threats contained in the video portend the commission of new killings against prisoners inside Israeli prisons, stressing that it continues its efforts at various levels to secure the release of prisoners and guarantee their freedom.
Hamas stressed that the prisoners' cause will remain present, affirming its commitment to continuing work to secure their release.
