South Korea's Lee: Trump-Kim Summit Still Possible

South Korean President Lee Jae-myung says a summit between Trump and Kim Jong-un in the coming months remains possible, despite no confirmed signs it will take place.

South Korean President Lee Jae-myung said Friday that a summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in the coming months remains a possibility, despite the absence of confirmed signs that it will be held.

Speaking at a televised press conference, Lee added that Trump wants to resume dialogue with North Korea, noting that Seoul is continuing its efforts to facilitate the resumption of communications between Washington and Pyongyang.

The South Korean president called on the parties concerned to make maximum efforts to turn the possibility of resuming talks into reality, considering that a return to dialogue between Washington and Pyongyang could mark an important step toward enhancing peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.

He explained that resuming US-North Korean dialogue currently appears easier than relaunching direct talks between the two Koreas, and could help create conditions for restoring communication between Seoul and Pyongyang.

Lee's remarks came hours after the North Korean leader's sister criticized the US-led military exercises in the region, saying they contribute to rising security tensions.
