Adnan Abu Hasna, media adviser to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), said the financial crisis facing the agency remains unresolved, despite continued service delivery and the resumption of education in the Gaza Strip.
Abu Hasna explained that the agency was forced to cut the salaries of its employees to address the financial deficit, amid ongoing efforts to secure funding and ensure the continuity of basic services provided to Palestinian refugees.
On education, he noted that around half a million students have returned to the education process in the Gaza Strip, saying the current academic year may be better than the previous one amid relative security calm.
He said about 86 education spaces are currently operating in the Strip, receiving between 70,000 and 80,000 students in in-person education, with the number expected to rise to about 100,000 students in the coming months, while virtual and distance education is expected to cover about 280,000 students.
