UN warns Gaza hunger crisis is worsening

The UN Special Rapporteur on the right to food says humanitarian aid is not entering Gaza freely, as more than 1.4 million people face acute food insecurity.

The United Nations has warned that the food insecurity crisis in the Gaza Strip is worsening, stressing that humanitarian aid is not entering the enclave freely.

UN Special Rapporteur on the right to food Sofia Monsalve Suárez said in press remarks on Wednesday evening that continued restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid are deepening the humanitarian and food crisis facing Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

She warned that aid is not reaching the Strip with the necessary volume and freedom, amid persistently high levels of food insecurity among the population.

IPC projections indicate that more than 1.4 million people, or about 67 percent of Gaza's population, are facing acute food insecurity.
