Settlers seal Wad al-Rababa, assault farmers in Salfit

A metal gate installed under Israeli police protection blocks the entrance to Wad al-Rababa in Silwan, as settlers assault farmers and steal livestock and equipment in Salfit and Silwad.

Settlers on Tuesday closed the Wad al-Rababa neighbourhood in the town of Silwan, south of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, by installing a metal gate at its entrance under the protection of Israeli police.

Jerusalemite sources said the gate obstructs the entry of service and support vehicles into the neighbourhood, which is home to more than a thousand Jerusalemite residents.

In Salfit governorate, settlers cut down olive trees and assaulted farmers' property in the village of Marda, north of the governorate, and stole agricultural equipment from the Wad al-Ahmar area east of the village.

In a related context, settlers stole livestock and sheep belonging to residents of the town of Silwad, east of Ramallah, under the protection of occupation forces, and raided homes and facilities in the town.

Settler attacks on farmers and their property in Salfit governorate recur alongside the olive harvest season, amid fears that these attacks will affect farmers' access to their lands and the completion of the agricultural season.
