The Palestinian Prisoners Club and the Prisoners' Media Office warned of Israeli threats to the life and safety of senior prisoner Ibrahim Hamed, after an image of him inside an isolation cell was shown to residents during field interrogations conducted by occupation forces in the town of Silwad, east of Ramallah, last night, at a time when about 25 residents were detained and subjected to beatings and abuse, leading to three of them being transferred to hospital.
The Prisoners Club said occupation forces used Hamed's image during the field interrogation of dozens of residents and coupled its display with threats regarding his fate inside prison, considering that this practice goes beyond direct intimidation to fall within attempts to influence Palestinian consciousness and spread fear by employing the image of prisoners and what they are subjected to inside prisons.
The Club explained that this practice aims to psychologically intimidate residents by evoking the reality of captivity and the violations to which detainees are exposed, and by linking the image of the Palestinian fighter to fear, punishment and the fate that may await him inside prisons.
It noted that these practices come within the context of policies aimed at subjugating Palestinians, and are not limited to arrest, beatings and abuse, but extend to attempts to influence collective consciousness, amid an escalation of violations against prisoners, including torture, isolation and deprivation of basic rights.
For its part, the Prisoners' Media Office warned of the seriousness of the threats against Hamed and the indications they carry of a danger threatening his life and safety amid his continued isolation, holding the occupation authorities fully responsible for his life and any harm that may befall him.
The Office called on human rights institutions and international bodies to intervene urgently to protect Hamed and all prisoners, to press for an end to his isolation, to enable lawyers and competent international bodies to visit him and check on his safety, and to hold those responsible for the threats and violations committed against prisoners accountable.
