Unexploded Ordnance Threatens Lives of Palestinians in Gaza

Around 71,000 tons of unexploded explosives are scattered among rubble in the Gaza Strip, as the number of martyrs and injured from these munitions exceeds 1,200.

Unexploded ordnance continues to threaten the lives of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip amid its spread among rubble and debris, with around 1,000 dangerous objects recorded during field missions in April 2026, while the quantity of unexploded explosives is estimated at about 71,000 tons.

Civil Defense data indicates the presence of one explosive device every 600 meters in the Strip, while the number of martyrs and injured from unexploded ordnance has exceeded 1,200, reflecting the scale of the risks facing residents, especially those returning to their homes and destroyed areas.

The Civil Defense affirmed that these munitions pose a continuing danger to civilians, as they may explode when approached or when rubble is moved, and they also obstruct the removal of rubble and the securing of affected areas, which threatens the return of residents to their homes and increases the complications of reconstruction efforts.

The need emerges to intensify field survey operations and the removal of unexploded ordnance, alongside raising awareness among residents about the dangers of approaching or touching suspicious objects and reporting them to the competent authorities to preserve lives.
