Prisoner Dhikra Nasser Memorizes Quran in Damoun Despite Torture

Palestinian prisoner Dhikra Raafat Nasser (23) faces harsh conditions in Damoun prison since her arrest in February 2026, while completing the memorization of the Quran in three and a half months.

Palestinian prisoner Dhikra Raafat Nasser, 23, from the village of Deir Sharaf west of Nablus, has been facing harsh detention conditions since her arrest on 9 February 2026. According to a statement conveyed by lawyer Hassan al-Abadi, she was subjected to beatings, threats and humiliation, while Israeli occupation authorities continue to hold her in Damoun prison amid conditions described as difficult.

Al-Abadi, following his visit to the prisoner, reported that since her arrest she was subjected to hand and leg restraints, blindfolding and beatings, before being transferred to the Maskobiyya investigation center, where she spent 17 days during which she was subjected to abuse and threats. He also noted that her hijab was removed and that she was dragged after refusing to be photographed without it.

In Damoun prison, Nasser was subjected to several raids and crackdowns, including two incidents on 7 and 8 October, during which pepper gas was fired inside the room, causing her to lose consciousness for more than two hours, before she was placed in isolation following the incident.

Despite these conditions, the prisoner, a graduate of An-Najah National University with a degree in graphic design, managed to complete the memorization of the entire Quran within three and a half months, expressing her hope to dedicate the achievement to her parents as a 'crown of dignity'.

Female prisoners in Damoun prison suffer difficult conditions, including starvation, abuse and humiliation, the spread of itching with denial of treatment, as well as a lack of privacy.
