Gaza Health Ministry warns hospital generators may stop working

The Health Ministry in Gaza warns that remaining hospital generators risk halting due to a severe shortage of engine oils and spare parts, threatening power to vital and life-saving departments.

The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip has warned of the risk that electric generators in the remaining hospitals will stop working due to a severe shortage of engine oils and spare parts, threatening power cuts to vital and life-saving departments.

In a press statement, the ministry said engineering and technical teams are working in complex field conditions to keep the generators running, as the remaining quantities of oil inside the engines wear down, raising the risk of sudden mechanical failures that could lead to a complete halt.

It explained that technical crews are resorting to temporary emergency solutions, including recycling the small remaining quantities of oils and carrying out technical treatments, in an attempt to prevent the generators from stopping, noting that these solutions have exhausted their ability to ensure continued operation.

The ministry added that continuing to operate the generators amid the shortage of essential oils exceeds approved engineering and technical standards, and portends severe failures whose repair or replacement could become impossible given the lack of supplies and spare parts.

It affirmed that the crisis has moved beyond the warning stage, with the growing risk that generation engines will stop working, potentially leading to a complete and immediate power cut to vital medical departments.

The Ministry of Health renewed its appeal to international institutions and donors for urgent intervention to provide engine oils and necessary technical supplies, warning of the serious repercussions of the continued crisis on the work of hospitals and their ability to provide life-saving medical services.
