Damoun Prison: Female Detainees Face Starvation and Medical Neglect

The Prisoners' Media Office reveals deteriorating health and living conditions for female detainees in Damoun Prison, citing testimony from detainee Lawzana al-Karaki.

The Prisoners' Media Office has revealed the deteriorating health and living conditions of Palestinian female detainees in Damoun Prison amid starvation, medical neglect and crackdowns, citing testimony given by detainee Lawzana Azmi al-Karaki, 47, to lawyer Hassan al-Abadi.

The office said al-Karaki, a teacher from the city of Hebron, was arrested at dawn on 7 July 2026 and moved between several interrogation centres and prisons before arriving at Damoun Prison. It noted that she has lost about 9 kilograms of her weight due to the poor quality and small quantities of food, and is still losing more.

It added that the detainee spoke of the lack of attention to pregnant detainees and of crackdowns in the prison on 7 and 8 October, during which gas was sprayed inside rooms holding pregnant detainees, noting that three detainees were in isolation at the time of the visit.

The Prisoners' Media Office indicated that al-Karaki demanded that her medical reports related to her kidneys and chest be provided, while detainee Nabila Mrei needs urgent medical intervention after sustaining a severe shoulder injury as a result of the crackdown.

The office called for urgent action to assess the conditions of female detainees in Damoun Prison, in light of the testimony reporting health and living deterioration and fears over the provision of necessary medical care.
