In a statement marking Palestinian Women's National Day, observed on Monday, the ministry said more than 38,000 women and girls had been killed, while about 11,700 had been injured in ways that caused permanent disabilities, noting that the toll is equivalent to one woman or girl out of every 21 in the Strip.
The ministry added that more than 277 women and girls were killed over the past year despite the ceasefire of October 2025, and noted that more than 150 evacuation orders have been issued since October 2023, forcing about one million women and girls to displace.
On humanitarian and social conditions, the ministry said the number of female-headed households had doubled to 86,290, while about 702,000 women and girls face acute food insecurity between July and December 2026.
It reported that about 4,000 abortions were recorded in the first half of 2026, three times the number recorded in the second half of 2025.
On the situation of widows and orphaned children, the ministry said the number of widows in the Gaza Strip had reached 64,413, including 28,224 who became widows during the war, while the number of orphaned children stood at 71,846.
It added that 258,927 displaced families are living in 2,090 shelters under difficult humanitarian conditions, noting that widows face compounded burdens after losing their husbands and homes, taking on responsibility for orphaned children and living in tents lacking the basics of life.
On the file of Palestinian female prisoners, the ministry said, citing prisoner institutions' reports up to the start of the current month of October, that the number of female prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons had reached 90 out of about 9,300 prisoners, including 25 administrative detainees and two girls under the age of 18.
It said three pregnant prisoners were documented during 2026 amid what it described as medical neglect and harsh detention conditions, adding that occupation forces have arrested more than 800 women since 7 October 2023, with another figure of 650 arrests of women also reported, without clarifying the nature of the discrepancy between the two counts.
The ministry affirmed that Palestinian women face mounting burdens from killing, displacement, the loss of family members and deteriorating living conditions, alongside challenges tied to caring for children and securing food, shelter and health care.
