21,000 Patients and Injured in Gaza Await Treatment Abroad

Gaza's Health Ministry says about 21,468 patients and injured people are on waiting lists to travel abroad for treatment, including 6,430 priority cases, amid continued restrictions on movement through crossings.

The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced that the number of patients and injured people in need of travel abroad for treatment and registered on waiting lists has reached about 21,468 cases, including 6,430 cases considered eligible and prioritized for travel, amid continued restrictions on the movement of patients through crossings.

The ministry said its medical referral committee continues its work with field and administrative teams to follow up on medical and logistical procedures for patients and injured people in the Strip and to complete the files related to their referral for treatment abroad.

It explained that the total number of patients and injured people evacuated for treatment outside the Strip since last February until today has reached 3,056, including 2,614 cases through the Rafah land crossing and 442 cases through the Kerem Abu Salem crossing.

The ministry warned that repeated and sudden closures of crossings, along with slow procedures, have obstructed medical referrals and worsened the health conditions of thousands of patients and injured people, noting that dozens have lost their lives while waiting for permission to travel to receive treatment.

The Ministry of Health renewed its demand to open the Rafah land crossing for the travel of patients and injured people, facilitate their exit without restrictions or administrative complications, and increase the number allowed to travel daily, in order to reduce waiting lists and save cases requiring urgent medical intervention.
